A new, state-of-the-art machine upholds Gmund Paper Mill’s exactingly high standards

Even shorter delivery times, the most accurately cut edges and the ability to comply with the most unusual requests from customers: these were the indispensable characteristics of the new technology for a new cutter-sorter in Gmund. The new cutting unit was manufactured by Milltex, which is renowned for the precision of its products. A specially equipped version of this machine, which uses the patented Ingromat method, was constructed for Gmund and subsequently installed at the paper mill. The unit perfectly augments Gmund’s existing machine park of production equipment.

“Our new high-tech cutting unit enables us to respond with even greater agility and speed. Whether customers want papers with watermarks or high-quality image paperboards, we can cut our high-quality papers from Lake Tegernsee to any desired size and with the utmost accuracy. This makes it faster and more efficient for us to offer individualized papers that satisfy our customers’ needs. This new unit has been running at Gmund for several months already and the test phase was more than merely convincing.

Our customers are completely satisfied”, says Stephan Treske, technical director at the Gmund Paper Mill. An ultramodern and user-friendly control system, energy-saving motor technology with patented energy recovery and very low specific electrical consumption combine to make this the world’s most modern cutting unit. The machine is both quiet and quick: thanks to specially developed noise-absorption features, the volume of its sound is far below the legal limits specified by noise-protection guidelines; and it can run at a very fast top speed of 350 metres per minute while simultaneously upholding perfect precision.

To automatically remove even the smallest particles from the paper web, the unit’s highly efficient cleansing system relies on the patented Ingromat® method, which is the newest generation of a highperformance suction system. Elaborate sensors and modern camera systems also facilitate the matched cutting of watermarks. The cutting device per se operates with the highest precision to ensure exactly cut edges and perfectly fitting formats. Subsequent packaging in a moisture- and dirt-repellent wrapping paper guarantees the high quality of Gmund’s papers worldwide.

High-tech in Gmund: technical director Stephan Treske, owner Florian Kohler and commercial director Reiner Schuster are satisfied with their inspection of the new cutting unit in Gmund (from left to right). Florian Kohler, owner and fourth-generation papermaker, comments on this big new investment in Gmund’s ongoing history: “We’re pleased that measures like this one enable us to boost our capacity and continually improve our company’s energy efficiency.”

Headquartered in the town of Gmund beside the shores of Lake Tegernsee, the GMUND Paper Mill is a traditional family-owned business with a staff of circa 120 employees. Currently directed by Florian Kohler, GMUND has been synonymous with paper culture since 1829. Time-honoured production methods are brought into perfect harmony with modern technologies and creative designs at GMUND, which specializes in the finest papers and paperboards. The focus is on innovation, ecology and tradition.
