Reflex increases the production of translucent paper

  • Publicado el 18 de Diciembre de 2015

A few days ago at the Düren (Germany) based paper manufacturer Reflex, the upgraded paper machine PM4was restarted in the presence of the entire team. For CEO Hariolf Koeder, this was a great moment, as he sees the PM4 as “a translucent paper machine which fulfils high quality individual requirements.

” Over a time of four months the mill heavily invested in the paper machine. It was also a priority to improve energy efficiency and to reduce water consumption, by means of energy solutions. This way, money could be saved, and at the same time, the ecological footprint of the company could be significantly reduced. As scheduled, the new steam power plant will be completed in December 2015. This will also supply PM4 in the future.

Translucent paper was previously mainly required in the drawing sector, but it is now used for several applications in the graphic design sector. Examples include brochures, mailings, calendars, printed matter, envelopes, and above all an increasing amount in innovative packaging. The special technical design of the PM4 makes it possible to produce very high quality translucent paper with recognised unique characteristics. The substances ranges from 50 gsm to 220 gsm, in various qualities. The translucent paper is primarily produced with white, but customers can also choose from a variety of colours.

Of the company’s latest milestone within the set multi-pillar product and diversification strategy, Koeder says: “In light of the current developments in the paper industry, a restart of a paper machine seems unusual. The owners of Reflex have nevertheless provided a seven-figure sum for necessary investments until 2017. We are therefore in the position to not only strengthen our return to the translucent paper market, but at the same time increase our capacity.” With a large investment in its infrastructure, Reflex signalled the start of an economically stable future for the company. In addition, Reflex plans to switch from the current three-shift operation to a four-shift system. Through this, Reflex can also create more jobs, and is also looking for apprentices.
