SMP Group boosts industrial printing capabilities following installation of Europe’s first Inca Onset X3

SMP Group, one of the UK’s largest producers of Point of Sale (POS) materials, is already seeing a significant boost to its production capabilities, just two months after installing Europe’s first Inca Onset X3 14-channel UV flatbed printer.

Says Darren Jarvis, New Business Director, SMP Group: “The Onset X3 has fitted seamlessly into our production portfolio and is already giving us real scope for growth in the business. We invested in the machine on the basis of the quality, flexibility and speed it could bring to the business and now that it’s in and running, we can see what it’s real potential is in terms of the exciting new applications it can bring to the business and our customers.”

Officially launched as part of the new Onset X Series in October 2015, the Onset X3 wide-format flatbed UV printer is capable of printing at a blistering 900m2/hr (180 beds/hr) and features 3 x CMYK ink channels.

The Onset X3 model sits at the pinnacle of productivity, ensuring users of analogue printing lines can take the digital route and print long runs of high-quality print with superb consistency and reliability. The new Onset X range incorporates hardware and software advances that further enhance the platform’s reputation for being the leading industrial production flatbed on the market.

Continues Mr Jarvis: “In addition to the great performance we’ve witnessed from the new X3 printer since installation, we have also found it very easy dealing with both Fujifilm and Inca Digital.  What really impressed us during the research and sales period was both companies’ honesty regarding the capabilities of the Onset X Series.

“It wasn’t a sales pitch as such, nor were there unrealistic promises. It was an honest discussion on what the machine could do, and how it could benefit our business, together with the new applications we could offer customers. Since installation, the machine has performed exactly how they said it would, which hasn’t always been the case in the past. This gives us real confidence moving forward, as when you’re investing in kit at this level, this is precisely the type of supplier you want to partner with. We believe this investment marks the first step in a long partnership with Fujifilm and Inca Digital as we focus on expanding our presence further in the industrial print sector.”

SMP has long embraced UV ink technology and was early in recognising the value and benefits it offered to their client base, with their first investment in flatbed technology coming twelve years ago. “We work with some of the largest retailers and brands across Europe and they demand the highest quality and accurate print results,” adds Mark Turner, director of digital print at SMP Group: “The investment in the Inca Onset X3 was part of our ongoing commitment to our customers to increase productivity, enhance quality and ultimately provide them with the greatest value in our relationship with them. The Onset X3 is now playing a key role in helping us to deliver this.

Concludes Mr Jarvis: “We are always on the lookout for the most advanced printers that can improve our performance and the Onset X3 will be a great addition to our digital production fleet. We are impressed by the perfect balance between speed and quality offered by the machine, and the 14 picolitre drop size delivers detailed, high resolution images. The 3.2m x1.6m bed will also allow us to lay and print three sheets at the same time, increasing our productivity.”

Based in Woolwich, south east London, and with an 80 year printing heritage, SMP Group is a leading print provider to the retail market across Europe and has been consistently recognised for its work, winning many prestigious industry honours such as the POPAI and Print Week Awards.
