BST eltromat at drupa 2016 offer new options for quality assurance and automation

  • Publicado el 20 de Mayo de 2016

Under the motto "BST eltromat Drives Your Improvement", BST eltromat International will be presenting a portfolio of unique width at this year's drupa – both in Hall 10 (Booth D41) and in the drupa innovation park dip! in Hall 7 (Booth B22). The focus will be on quality assurance in the production of packaging, labels or printed electronics, among other things, and the presentations will feature the product segments of web guiding, (surface) inspection, web video inspection, register control, color measurement and control, as well as layer thickness and basis weight measurement.

This comprehensive product range will be complemented by services and automation concepts, which will be exhibition focuses of their own. In addition to tried-and- tested solutions, BST eltromat will be presenting innovations at drupa that particularly offer manufacturers using web-oriented production processes some new capabilities for proactively meeting the demands of their customers.

"We will be taking drupa 2016 as an opportunity to give a targeted presentation of the wide range of our portfolio for quality assurance and automation in web-oriented production processes. This portfolio gives us a unique selling proposition in the marketplace. In all product segments, we have experts who competently support our customers from start to finish – from the initial enquiry, all the way to final training certification – and can specifically consider their individual requirements. They can compile tailor-made configurations based on elements from our comprehensive product range, which is designed with a modular structure and offers customers a choice between eco versions, standard systems and high-end solutions. If necessary, the configurations can be adapted to suit individual customers. On top of this come our full range of services and our tried-and-tested automation solutions that make our overall portfolio unique. All this is completed by our company's global presence. Both in Sales and Service, our staff speak our customers' language. That is a further key element of our particular customer orientation, which is in turn the basis for what is usually very long-standing and trusting cooperation with our customers," says Anne-Laureen Lauven, Head of Marketing at BST eltromat, summing up her company's key messages at the Düsseldorf exhibition.

At drupa, BST eltromat will be further expanding its already broad portfolio of solutions for web guiding. The company will be presenting the EcoGuide guiding device and the ekr CON 100 controller – new, low-cost systems with a compact design and intuitive operation. Both the EcoGuide and the ekr CON 100 have a Plug&Play function for quick and easy commissioning. In regard to its web guiding sensors, BST eltromat's focuses will include the CLS Pro 600 digital line and contrast sensor, and the seamless integration of its wide-array sensors with its controllers. This offers the company's customers additional capabilities in web guiding.

The color sensors of the high-performance CLS Pro 600 sensor provide precise, non-contact scanning of lines, and also of print or web edges. This enables them to cover a wide range of different possibilities. The combination of high scan rate and high-resolution CCD color line chip guarantees precise guiding of the webs, even when dealing with broken lines or contrasts.

The wide-array sensors are primarily used where the web width fluctuates, or where it must be possible to change formats without moving and adjusting the sensors. One of their special features is automatic compensation for ambient influences, such as changing temperatures or dirt accumulating during operation. That is why customers typically use these sensors for applications that are a particular challenge.

BST eltromat will also be bringing innovations for narrow-web applications to drupa 2016. POWERScope 5000 is the name of a new, digital video inspection system that offers greatly improved image quality compared to the previous solutions. As a result, machine operators can detect irregularities on the press far better and faster. As a low-cost, entry-level model, the POWERScope 5000 features a uniquely easy- to-operate user interface.

In the field of register control, the BST eltromat presentation in Düsseldorf will emphasize the unique performance of its intelligent sensors, which are even capable of reliably detecting very low-contrast marks, as well as lacquers, cold and hot seal. Outstanding examples are white marks on white backgrounds, or marks on metallized backgrounds, such as holograms. Beyond this, register control systems from BST eltromat are well known on the market for their short setup times and their excellent user-friendliness, including the real-time, live production images displayed on the machine operators' monitors.

A further exhibition focus will be the iPQ-Center, with which individualized solutions for numerous inspection tasks can be assembled in modular fashion. The backbone of the iPQ-Center is the iPQ- Workflow. It integrates three modules in a closed data workflow: iPQ-Check for 100% print inspection, iPQ-View for digital web inspection, and iPQ-Spectral for inline spectral color measurement.

The products presented by BST eltromat in this context will include the iPQ-Check version for laminators and coaters, which allows them to reliably detect surface defects. For printers, the high-performance line scan cameras deliver detailed color data and log the production results from the first revolution of the impression cylinders. A unique feature here is the lighting developed by BST eltromat, which is also specifically designed for use with reflective materials. Regarding iPQ-View, the company will be emphasizing supporting functions in Düsseldorf, e.g. for barcode verification, or Haze Guard for detecting printing errors with low contrast, such as scumming.

Beyond this, BST eltromat will be showing how prepress, press and iPQ-Center come closer together via an interface designed especially for this purpose. On the one hand, that shortens and simplifies press setup. On the other hand, print providers are put in a position to reliably and conveniently achieve the color values specified by customers, and to dependably keep them stable during production.

A very important attribute of the iPQ-Workflow is its openness to production-assisting solutions from other manufacturers. In this context, BST eltromat will be presenting the new, bidirectional interface to the Automation Engine from ESKO, which can now be used to conveniently set targets for the individual modules of the iPQ-Center. This further reduces the setup times of flexo and gravure printers, among others.

Another highlight is the new FSS 15 ink fountain control system from BST eltromat, which offers a very attractive price-to-performance ratio. The system characteristics of the FSS 15 were developed specifically for offset printing, with its high demands on color precision. Because it is compatible with older BST eltromat solutions for ink fountain control, the ink fountains and machine interfaces installed in existing printing presses can be replaced by the new system with a minimum of effort. In combination with the AR 4000 register control system for offset and hybrid printing presses, as well as various video web inspection systems from BST eltromat, the FSS 15 offers perfect management and quality control of printing results.

The subjects of service and automation will also play a major role in the BST eltromat presentation at drupa. Consequently, competent service engineers from the company will be at the booth to provide information and advice regarding the wide range of services offered. After all, as a dependable partner for safeguarding optimum production results, BST eltromat stands for short response times, professional handling, and maximum availability of spare parts. The same applies to the service experts from BST ProControl, who will be focusing on their service offers for the value chain in paper production.

Another topic addressed by BST eltromat in Düsseldorf will be its extensive competence as a partner for automation. BST eltromat has over 20 years of practical expertise in automating complex production processes and high-performance machines. Around the world, the company has realized more than 110 flexo printing presses with up to 22 printing units, as well as retrofitting projects for over 150 gravure presses from all leading manufacturers. The scope and degree of automation of the concepts devised by BST eltromat are accurately tailored to the requirements of the production operation involved. The company offers a complete range of products and services for widely differing fields of application – from drive systems to safety engineering – that guarantees tailored-made system solutions, whose performance customers can rely on every time.
