Rollin Imprimeur greatly improves cost-efficiency and flexibility with France’s first Speedmaster CS 92

Since May 2017, the Rollin printing company based in Blois has been using a new Speedmaster CS 92 four-color press with coating unit for its production. Impressive features of the first printing press of this type in France are a marked reduction in plate costs and significantly increased productivity and flexibility. Based on the tried-and-tested Speedmaster CD 102 platform, Rollin Imprimeur benefits from the high print quality from Heidelberg.

The Speedmaster CS 92 was presented for commercial printing at Print China 2015. Due to its 65 x 92 cm format, it requires 20 percent less plate material than the 70 x 100 format. It is thus gaining in popularity, as demonstrated by additional installations in Germany, France and the USA.

“A detailed analysis of our business quickly made it clear that the 65 x 92 format is the perfect match to our job structure,” confirms Antoine Rollin, Managing Director of the family company which he took over in 1992. “The positive results also apply to gang runs. With the Speedmaster CS 92, we can print nine A4 repeats on one sheet or as many as three A4 flyers with fold-outs; other machines in this category are not able to provide this degree of flexibility. At the end of the day, we are more efficient because our machine fleet is more suitable for the market that we operate in, and we were able to reduce our costs.”

The coating unit, a first for the printing company founded in 1954, also helped Rollin Imprimeur to extend its range. The integration of this technology creates completely new options, as all stages of numerous jobs with finishing can now be completed. With its modern technology, the Speedmaster CS 92 also brings a new dynamic to the entire team: “The machine’s automation components change the way our printers work and their level of motivation. The Speedmaster CS 92 is a very high-performance model. We can therefore produce with average speeds of 13,000 sheets per hour and often at full speed of 15,000 with some longer print runs. In comparison with our old machine, we were able to achieve an increase in productivity of more than 25 % thanks to faster setup, shorter makeready times and easier maintenance. This is a genuine technological advance and our customers benefit from it,” reports Antoine Rollin.

The Prinect Easy Control spectrophotometric measurement and control system makes color management easier. The company can thus comply with its high quality levels and guarantee its customers consistent and reproducible results in line with the PSO standard. The entire process chain – comprising prepress as well as offset and digital presses – is calibrated and controllable via the Prinect Digital Frontend. “We achieve a significant improvement in profitability, with approximately 200 less sheets of paper waste per makeready process. That corresponds to a saving of approx. € 30,000 per year,” explains Antoine Rollin. “The Speedmaster CS 92 fully meets our expectations in terms of value for money. With it, we have modernized our machine fleet, thus improving our quality levels and our production capacities. We are now benefiting from our business’s positive development which gives us new perspectives.”

Rollin Imprimeur is Imprim'Vert and PEFC-certified and it recorded sales of EUR 2.4 million in 2016 with its 16 employees. The company’s client base comprises a 50-50 share of regional and national agencies, authorities and major customers from the automotive and cosmetics industries. Since March 2016, the company has owned a Versafire CP 130 digital press. For postpress, Rollin Imprimeur puts its trust in hot-melt gluers, saddlestitchers and cutting and folding machines from Heidelberg. In addition to catalogs and brochures, the company also produces forms, envelopes, personalized and/or versioned documents as well as electrostatic PVC backings and labels.
