Kodak and C.P. Bourg team up for inline finishing flexibility

  • Publicado el 23 de Mayo de 2018

Kodak demonstrated the KODAK NEXPRESS ZX Digital Press and the latest inline support for the new BOURG BPM (Bourg Sheet Preparation Module), at the C.P. Bourg Open House event on May 14-17 in Ottignies, Brussels, Belgium. The expanded inline capabilities included the complete line of BOURG Bookletmakers and Perfect Binders, providing higher productivity and faster turnaround for jobs requiring these finishing characteristics. These new features are in addition to the existing nearline finishing options for KODAK NEXPRESS and KODAK NEXFINITY Presses and KODAK DIGIMASTER Digital Production Systems.

“As customers look to extend their run lengths on NEXPRESS and NEXFINITY Presses, the ability to reduce labor cost, while at the same time turning jobs around even more quickly, are key drivers to support the Bourg devices inline” says An Van Acker, Business Manager for Kodak’s European Electrophotographic Production Systems.

The ability to add unique 5th station inks at full production speeds on both NEXPRESS and NEXFINITY allows customers to offer truly unique printed pieces that exploit the full power of print. At the Open House, the new KODAK Metallic Clear Ink will be shown, offering the ability to create a wide range of metallic effects using blending of CMYK and the Metallic Clear Inks. This new ink joins 10 existing 5th station inks: Red, Green and Blue for gamut expansion, Light Black for outstanding highlights and mid-tones, Dimensional Clear for a unique tactile effect, Red Fluorescing for security and quality control applications, Opaque White for packaging and transparency jobs, Gold for eye-catching designs, MICR for checks and Clear ink for a wide range of coating, watermarking and high gloss designs. Using the unique architecture of the NEXPRESS and NEXFINITY platforms, these inks can be switched in 15 minutes or less, including all calibration and setup steps.

By offering the capability to add these 5th station effects inline and with full productivity, the ability to provide inline finishing into booklets or books means that extremely fast turnaround, low labor cost and high image quality products can be produced efficiently and securely. The ability to integrate the BOURG Sheet Feeder (BSF) inline also provides the flexibility to utilize the finishing equipment across multiple devices, such as shops with both NEXPRESS and DIGIMASTER Solutions. This allows the investment in efficient finishing solutions to benefit the entire print operation.

”The BOURG Sheet Preparation Module (BPM) is a sheet converting system that allows print professionals to automatically divide large “parent” sized printed sheets into intermediate, form sized or final sized sheets in-line at process speed between their printer/press and finisher. This simple solution dramatically reduces page imaging costs by allowing users to print multiple pages of a document on large sheets and eliminating the inefficient and expensive manual labor used to hand process those large sheets into small usable sizes on a guillotine cutter prior to finishing,” says Ronald van Hees, global VP sales and marketing at C.P. Bourg. “The BPM is modular and JDF compliant by design, allowing users to configure the product functions precisely as they require.”

The current inline integration project underway between Kodak and C. P. Bourg is the latest in a long history of working together to provide customers with robust, cost-effective solutions that keep them competitive in their markets. Utilizing the innovations from both companies to provide a complete solution allows customers to confidently quote and produce jobs of the highest quality in both printing and finishing production phases.
