IIJ off to a flying start in South Africa

  • Publicado el 11 de Marzo de 2019

Industrial Inkjet ltd has had active representation in South Africa since 2015. Last year saw very strong sales in that area, being the second largest sales area, and 2019 looks to be even better. This has not been by accident. Pieter Le Grange, IIJ’s representative based in Durban describes why our product offering has hit the right notes in this fast developing area of the world.

“IIJ have penetrated the local markets here with their configurable and unique solutions. In 2018, we added significantly to our existing installed base of colour and mono system in South Africa, by partnering with DG Press in the Netherlands. This allowed us to supply a unique 520mm wide high speed digital print solution and a camera verification system for a large end user in Pretoria. This gives the end customer the ability to ensure high security measures can be printed on to documents as required at very high speeds. The camera verification system also allows them to record each number and barcode printed on the web press and will void a document that is deemed spoilt or duplicated.

This was a challenging project but IIJ, always willing to partner with press manufacturers, worked together with DG Press Services to supply the solution required for this section of security printing market. Following on from this, the same customer had the confidence to invest in a second system in February of this year. This time it is a digital print solution to be fitted to their current Man Roland Uniset press to further enhance their capabilities to print security features. It will be the first of its kind for IIJ, adding two inkjet engines (black and invisible UV ink) onto such a press at a height of around 4m”

IIJ has massive plans for expansion in South Africa and indeed the rest of Africa. We at IIJ recognise that the African continent, West and East Africa, are growing quickly and want to be part of this growth. IIJ has opened an office in Durban, South Africa, to show its commitment to the local markets and to ensure that support is close at hand. The local office will soon have its own demo inkjet system for customers to see how the IIJ inkjet engines work.

Mike Thwaites, IIJ’s Global Sales Manager, has been heavily involved in supporting the growth of the business in South Africa. He commented, “We had a feeling that the time was right for a new player in digital inkjet in Africa for some time, but we could not have anticipated the level of success and interest in IIJ’s products. Building on that success IIJ are proud to have a strong presence in the region and as such have just opened our new offices in Durban.” Mike also went on to say “South Africa was our second biggest market last year, with the business we have already closed this year, we have every confidence in continuing the trend”.
