Xeikon to introduce innovative wall covering solutions at Heimtextil

At its third Heimtextil Xeikon will showcase highly unique wall paper designs produced using its wall decoration production suite. Xeikon will be located in Hall 6, in Frankfurt, from January 10 to 13 2017, next to the Heimtextil theme park. In addition to the live printing of unique wall coverings, the display will feature printed patterns and murals projected using new video mapping techniques. This will provide visitors with a “virtual reality” like experience and present the creativity of digitally produced wallcoverings.

SAS Graphics on target for growth with investment in new Fujifilm Acuity Select flatbed machine

Based in Hove, East Sussex, SAS (Special Art Services) Graphics is already seeing significant improvements in productivity and business opportunity following the installation of its latest investment, an Acuity Select X28 flatbed printer from Fujifilm in October this year. Steve White, managing director, SAS Graphics explains: "We originally invested in a Fujifilm Acuity LED 1600 roll to roll wide format printer in 2014 as the company transitioned to a high end graphics and signage business, following an MBO of the fine art and photographic printing side of the business. This machine has served, and continues to serve us very well. However, we made the decision earlier this year to increase our production capabilities to help meet the demands of a growing customer base.
Cooperation project between Papierfabrik Scheufelen and Stuttgart Media University

Five master’s students from Stuttgart Media University (HdM) are carrying out research for Papierfabrik Scheufelen and helping the company to further develop the “phoenolux” packaging board. Lenningen, 17 November 2016 – As part of their master’s thesis, five students from Stuttgart Media University (HdM) are working closely with Papierfabrik Scheufelen. They are using their packaging, marketing and design knowledge to help Scheufelen to further develop the high-quality “phoenolux” packaging board.
KBA Compacta 618 moving from Portugal to Italy

With its decision in favour of a 48-page Compacta 618, the Italian company Azienda Commerciale Meridionale from Torre Del Greco on the outskirts of Naples has once more invested in a highly automated commercial web press from Koenig & Bauer. KBA-Digital & Web is taking care of the relocation, installation and commissioning. “We are very pleased to be able to continue our successful partnership with ACM,” says Thomas Potzkai, head of service at KBA-Digital & Web. The press is scheduled to enter production at the end of 2016. ACM already operates a 16-page Compacta 215.

German Print Media Technology Competition selects winner for WorldSkills 2017 in Abu Dhabi

Three newly graduated printers put themselves forward for the opportunity to represent Germany at the next WorldSkills in the print media technology discipline, competing in a preliminary selection round entitled “We make world champions” from 23 to 24 November 2016. Florian Kraus from AZ Druck und Datentechnik GmbH in Kempten came away the winner, with Andreas Will from the same company and Jan Jungwirth from Engelhardt Etikett in Nördlingen as runners-up. Florian Kraus will therefore represent Germany next year at the WorldSkills International competition from 14 to 19 October 2017 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Messe Dsseldorf reconstructs southern section

Supervisory Board and the shareholders of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH have approved plans for the complete reconstruction of the South Entrance and, subsequently, Hall 1. Werner M. Dornscheidt, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, is pleased: “We can now implement our Masterplan for the complete modernisation and renewal of the premises at our home base – and indeed, as always, without subsidies.” The investment volume of this southern section is EUR 140 million. In all, Messe Düsseldorf will invest around EUR 636 million until 2030. The work will start in May 2017, after interpack, and should be completed in summer 2019. The design has been created by the Düsseldorf-based architectural company slapa oberholz pszczulny architekten.
Labelexpo India 2016 celebrates biggest-ever edition

Labelexpo India 2016 closed its most successful show to date on 20 November. Held at its new home for the first time, the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida (Delhi NCR), the four-day trade show was its biggest-ever edition and hosted 8,029 visitors. Billed as the largest dedicated label and package printing event for the South Asia region, Labelexpo India amassed the latest technology and solutions available to printers with over 200 exhibitors occupying the show floor. The show was used as a catalyst for many new product launches with announcements from Atul Papers, Avery Dennison, Bobst, DuPont, Flint Group, GEW, HB Fuller, Konica Minolta, manroland, Monotech Systems, Nilpeter, OMET, PGI Technologies, SPGPrints, UPM Raflatac, Webtech and Zonten.

The Industrial Print in Production conference (7-9 March 2017, Hamburg, Germany) will explore the innovative use of print and related techniques within the production process. The Industry 4.0 megatrend has also arrived in the printing sector. “Data is the new raw material for our industry,” stressed Michael Neugart, Chairman of the Board of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen Vertrieb Deutschland GmbH, at a convention of the print and media associations (VDM) for the German states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria in Wiesloch. Under the banner “This is the Future! Printing Industry 4.0”, around 150 experts explored the question of how the print media industry can use the digital age to its advantage. “As yet, there’s no conclusive definition of what Industry 4.0 actually means for the printing industry,” explained Alexander Lägeler, Managing Director of the VDM in Baden-Württemberg. He said that companies were still finding this out.

Major Corporations in Sight for Two Sides Global Anti-Greenwashing Campaign

At the annual meeting of Two Sides Country Managers in London on the 31st October 2016, representatives from Europe, North America, South America, South Africa and Australia determined to renew efforts to stop organisations using anti-print and paper messages in their marketing. Claims like, ‘go paperless, go green’ and ‘go paperless, save trees’, are commonplace as major corporations promote electronic services and products to reduce costs. However, such claims are not backed up by any analysis, they ignore the unique sustainable features of print and paper, and they do not consider the fact that all communication channels have an environmental impact.
