10th Cortina user workshop at KBA in Wrzburg

KBA Cortina users from Germany and abroad met for the tenth user workshop at this waterless newspaper press’ birthplace, Koenig & Bauer, in Würzburg on 12 and 13 November. KBA Cortina project manager Peter Benz put together an extremely varied agenda for this user group which has proved it is open to new ideas and new paths regarding the application and marketing of high-quality waterless web offset printing. He also hosted the event that focused on providing the latest information on hot topics and the a pooling of news and views between the Cortina users whose numbers have in the meantime increased to 19.

Mandruzzato uses Gallus to produce its wine labels

A new Gallus TCS 250 was recently taken into service at Tipografia Mandruzzato in Vò in the Italian province of Padua. This is already the second press of its type for the company and its partners Claudio Mandruzzato and Adriano, Luca and Marco Galante. The company, which was founded in 1983 and has a workforce of 15, mostly works for customers from the local region. The new investment will enable it to meet all its customers' requirements even more effectively.

New deep-freeze adhesive from HERMA Self-adhesive Materials

The reliable labelling of deep-frozen products has thus far presented a considerable challenge, especially in the case of fatty foods such as meat, fish or dairy ice-cream. Furthermore, some deep-freeze adhesives are not approved at all for use with these products. Although some such adhesives can be used up to a certain fat content, problems can arise with moist and icy surfaces, and when produced to labels. Self-adhesive specialist HERMA is now in a position to offer the best of both worlds. Its new deep-freeze adhesive 62K for labels satisfies two requirements that are generally mutually exclusive.
Heidelberg systematically gears portfolio toward profitability and growth

As announced at the Annual Press Conference in June, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is systematically gearing its portfolio toward profitability and growth. The company has completed the realignment of its postpress business as planned and on schedule. At the end of October, Heidelberg signed a cooperation agreement with Masterwork Machinery Co., Ltd in China covering postpress packaging equipment. Under this agreement, the Chinese company Masterwork will develop and manufacture future products and solutions for this market segment; marketing and service outside China and Japan will remain in the hands of Heidelberg.
Multi packaging solutions consolidates with EFI Radius

ESMA sets enforcement priorities for listed companies financial statements

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published its Public Statement on European Common Enforcement Priorities (Priorities) for 2014. These Priorities identify topics which ESMA, together with European national enforcers, see as a key focus of their examinations of listed companies’ financial statements. The common enforcement priorities encompass the following topics: Preparation and presentation of consolidated financial statements and related disclosures; Financial reporting by entities which have joint arrangements and related disclosures; and Recognition and measurement of deferred tax assets.
