Self-adhesive Label Sector back to pre-crisis volumes in 2010

FINAT, the European association for the self-adhesive label industry reports that demand for self-adhesive label materials in Europe has continued its strong recovery in 2010. From the all time lows recorded at the peak of the global financial crisis in mid 2009, demand returned to pre-crisis levels in the course of 2010. Last year, an overall volume of around 5.7 bln. square meters was recorded, an increase of 11.4% compared to 2009 and 3.5% above the level recorded in 2007, the year before the collapse of global financial markets.

Henkel announces price increase for industrial adhesives

Against the background of rising raw material costs, and with immediate effect, Henkel is implementing a price increase for certain product groups of its industrial adhesives. Increase amounts will vary based on market segment and technology. On average, the price increases will range from 10 to 25 percent.
Sun Chemical announces a price increase for its Liquid Ink products in Europe

Sun Chemical has announced an 8-12% price increase for its Liquid Ink Packaging products in Europe effective 1 April 2011. Ongoing raw material supply shortages and extreme cost increases for certain materials are continuing to have a serious effect on printing ink production.
RR Donnelley and KBA announce agreement to develop and deliver next generation digital print platforms

RR Donnelley & Sons Company (NASDAQ:RRD) and Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) of Wurzburg, Germany announced today an agreement to develop, manufacture and sell next generation piezoelectric digital inkjet printing solutions to the packaging, securities, commercial, and newspaper segments. Under the terms of the agreement, RR Donnelley will license its Apollo and other digital imaging technologies to KBA which will incorporate them into its press offerings. KBA’s new digital press will be introduced in May 2012 at the Drupa international print show in Dusseldorf, Germany. Further details will be published later.

Atlantic Zeiser is exhibiting efficient print job changes with non-stop machine availability at FESPA Digital. The GAMMA™ full-colour UV print module on an end-to-end system solution from the DIGILINE™ Single Product series, as well as the new compact OMEGA™ 25 digital printer with an air-cooled LED dryer unit, are the central focus. This new development is particularly suited for integration in existing production lines with limited space. All of the modules and system solutions have been developed for the profitable coding, marking and printing of small print runs as well as late-stage customisation of packages, labels, mailshots, cards and individual products. Sun Chemical announced an increase for all its Heatset, Coldset and Publication Gravure inks in Europe

Due to ongoing raw material shortages and cost increases, Sun Chemical today announced an increase of a maximum of €0.25 per kg for all its Heatset, Coldset and Publication Gravure inks in Europe, effective March 1st. With no stability in the cost, or the supply, of key raw materials used in the manufacture of these inks, Sun Chemical has taken the decision to adjust its prices in order to remain competitive in this segment.
Double-digit growth in exports of Italy’s printing and converting machinery industry

The good news was reported by ACIMGA, the trade association part of Confindustria representing an industry comprising about 150 companies and employing approximately 7000 people, for an estimated total turnover of 1,700 million Euros in 2010, of which 1,350 million generated from exports – over 70 % of the domestic turnover – and praised as the crowning achievement in the “Made in Italy” instrumental mechanics sector.
Siegwerk announces further price increases

Due to continued raw material cost increases Siegwerk will raise prices in all customer segments on average 8 percent and in some segments up to 25 percent. “Higher raw material prices have such a big impact on our business that we have to pass on some of these costs to our customers,” says CEO Herbert Forker. “We work hard to offset as much of the additional cost as we reasonably can; productivity programs, search for cheaper raw material solutions, purchasing efforts and efficiency measures from last year are continued.”
Kodak hosts discussion on the future of book publishing

While the book market overall will remain relatively flat over the next three years, digital technologies will provide new opportunities and better processes for content creation, delivery and production. That perspective was one of many shared by participants during an expansive roundtable discussion about the future of book publishing. EskoArtwork announces that its shareholder, the Danish investment group Axcel enters into a definitive Sales Purchase Agreement with the US industrial company Danaher (NYSE: DHR) for the acquisition of 100% of the shares in EskoArtwork for a purchase price of €350 million.The closing of the transaction is subject to customary approvals and is foreseen to be concluded within the first half of 2011.
