The 3D revolution is spreading like wildfire

Almost unnoticed, revolutionary production technologies have emerged without any meaningful input from big players. Instead, the initiatives came from researchers, small start-ups and tinkerers in their garages who experimented with printing three-dimensional stuff. As is common with all technical revolutions, the “movement“ thrives on its early protagonists’ enthusiasm, which in our case happens to be mostly made up of middle-aged, male tech aficionados working in tandem with a complementary open-source community.

HP and Mimaki certify HEYTex print media for latex ink print

After frontlit light B1, an additional five HEYTex print media have been certified for latex ink printing by HP and Mimaki. This shows that the company constantly improves its performance level in the future market in a user-oriented and consequent way.The high requirements of this renowned and globally recognised test for the certification of latex ink printing as to printing quality, print media interaction (material properties during printing), handling properties after printing and more, has been passed with flying colours by a total of six HEYTex print media. For the first time, four products belonging to the ecologically sustainable, PVC-free HEYblue digitex portfolio are amongst these media.
RISI identifies BHK pulp lines at risk of closure

As new capacity continues to enter the Bleached Hardwood Kraft Pulp (BHKP) market, prices are facing considerable downward pressure triggering adjustments to the industry. With demand growth of BHK pulp slowing, it is expected that small, high-cost market BHK pulp mills and lines will close. These findings were recently released in a major new study by RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry.

KBA strengthens its presence in growing packaging market

This segment benefits from increasing levels of prosperity, consumption and the trend towards self-service markets in rapidly expanding industrial countries such as China, India, Brazil and Turkey. It is not affected by the growing popularity of online media. KBA is the longstanding market leader in printing systems for folding carton and metal packaging with its sheetfed offset facility in Radebeul near Dresden and subsidiary KBA-MetalPrint in Stuttgart.
Esko Full HD Flexo and Equinox prove to be award-winning solutions for Uniflex

Esko proudly congratulates its customer JV Uniflex for winning the Supreme Award at the recent FlexoTech International Print & Innovations Awards 2013 with its «Moskovskiy Kartofel» entry. The same entry also won the 'Flexo job previously printed by another process' category. "We are incredibly pleased with this prize. It's like the Oscars for printing," says Eugene Lungin, head of prepress at Uniflex.

FESPA launch sets new event standard in Eurasia

FESPA Eurasia, which took place for the first time in Istanbul, Turkey from 3 to 5 October 2013, set a new standard for wide format printing and signage events in Turkey. An international audience of almost 7000 - individual senior decision makers travelled to the launch event from more than 98 countries. 26% of visitors travelled to FESPA Eurasia from outside Turkey, with the most significant visitor groups coming from Bulgaria, Iran, Greece, Russia, Pakistan and Ukraine. Notable visitor groups also attended from the UK and Germany.

HEXIS is launching a new type of digital printing vinyl

The HX190WG2 is a 50µm layered cast vinyl film and because of its particular formulation is more versatile and more “tolerant” with regard to the imperfections of the different print systems. Spandex names Gabriela Parish marketing manager for Europe

Spandex has named Gabriela (Gabi) Parish Marketing Manager for Europe, reporting to Rob Karpenko, who assumed the position of Director of Marketing for the organisation in July 2013. Gabi has been with Spandex for six years in the role of Marketing Manager for the UK and Spain. She will retain her UK regional marketing responsibilities in addition to her new focus on strategic group marketing. She is based at the offices of Spandex UK in Bristol.
