FESPA announces Lufthansa as the Official Airline Carrier for FESPA Digital 2014

FESPA is offering international visitors and exhibitor personnel travelling to Munich special discounted flights for FESPA Digital 2014 (20 - 23 May 2014) with partner Lufthansa.  Lufthansa is the largest airline in Europe in terms of passenger's carried and fleet size. The airline flies to 18 domestic destinations in Germany and 197 international destinations across Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia using a fleet of more than 280 aircraft.
REAL Digital kicks off 2014 with major investment in two Screen Truepress Jet 520

In a major investment REAL Digital International (RDI) has invested in two high-speed 128m/min Screen Truepress Jet520 colour inkjet lines to service its expanding personalised digital print business. Both presses have been installed in a newly fitted out production hall at its Croydon facility and are in the process of being commissioned, with live jobs planned to be on machine before the end of January.
KODAK SONORA XP process free plates deliver sustainable advantages

When Grafiche Esposti in Mantua (Italy) wanted to find a way to combine the colour fidelity and high-quality images required for its customers’ display stands with more sustainable print production processes, it turned to Kodak for its  technical know-how. The result was an investment in the KODAK TRENDSETTER VLF Platesetter and KODAK SONORA XP Process Free Plates, in formats of up to two square metres (21.52 square feet) - a first in this sector. The plates eliminate processor costs and reduce environmental impact by removing the need for chemicals.
Heidelberg launches new Saphira ink series specially developed for LE UV users

At drupa 2012, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) unveiled its DryStar LE (Low Energy) UV drying technology, an energy-efficient process that offers a gateway to UV printing for commercial print shops in particular. This process uses highly reactive UV inks, which reduces the number of dryer lamps required in the press and thus cuts energy consumption significantly. This technology has already become established on many markets. Heidelberg is now augmenting its technology portfolio with perfectly coordinated ink series sold under the Saphira label, thus offering users machine technology and consumables from a single source.
Inca Digital 2014 ideas entry deadline approaching

Agfa Graphics to lift the covers off the new Arkitex Production

Kugler-Womako helps in the new developments in passport manufacture

Passports are documents which make high demands in terms of forgery protection. So the machinery deployed in the manufacture of these products must always be state-of-the-art. For the Australian company Note Printing Australia (NPA), Kugler-Womako GmbH has developed a new variant of its passport machine PassPort 2, the PassPort2 PUR, which uses a polyurethane hot-melt adhesive instead of the traditional glues, and a completely new PassPort chip insertion machine.

Rapidly escalating land prices force timberland to explore other Latin American countries

EFI Acquires SmartLinc

EFI announced that it has acquired shipping software developer SmartLinc Inc. Based in Milwaukee, SmartLinc Inc. makes software that optimizes the shipping process by allowing users to select the best carrier for their shipments. The software also allows for automated integration with other software systems. Print MIS/ERP products can automatically submit print jobs to SmartLinc software, which then tracks shipment status, cost and carrier information, and transfers this information back to the MIS/ERP system so users can have a more complete picture of expenses, job delivery and other essential metrics.

Agfa Graphics sets up virtual print center

Agfa Graphics achieved a world’s first when it brought the prepress activities for the two largest Belgian newspaper groups in the cloud. Coldset Printing Partners (CPP) originated in 2010 as the joint-venture of the Belgian cold set printers of Belgium’s largest media groups Corelio and Concentra. It is the largest newspaper printer in Belgium. To build out a central control center for both printing sites CPP turned to Agfa Graphics.
