Xeikon and PrintSoft sign strategic alliance

PrintSoft and digital printing pioneer Xeikon have announced a global strategic alliance to create a one-stop shop catering to every aspect of the customer correspondence process.  Through the partnership, both Xeikon and PrintSoft will offer integrated solutions designed to meet current market requirements. In particular, the partnership will address the need to send out the right message through the right medium, now a vital element for marketers looking to ensure that campaigns are relevant and targeted.
Sun Chemical announced an increase for all its Heatset, Coldset and Publication Gravure inks in Europe

Due to ongoing raw material shortages and cost increases, Sun Chemical today announced an increase of a maximum of €0.25 per kg for all its Heatset, Coldset and Publication Gravure inks in Europe, effective March 1st. With no stability in the cost, or the supply, of key raw materials used in the manufacture of these inks, Sun Chemical has taken the decision to adjust its prices in order to remain competitive in this segment.
Double-digit growth in exports of Italy’s printing and converting machinery industry

The good news was reported by ACIMGA, the trade association part of Confindustria representing an industry comprising about 150 companies and employing approximately 7000 people, for an estimated total turnover of 1,700 million Euros in 2010, of which 1,350 million generated from exports – over 70 % of the domestic turnover – and praised as the crowning achievement in the “Made in Italy” instrumental mechanics sector.
Siegwerk announces further price increases

Due to continued raw material cost increases Siegwerk will raise prices in all customer segments on average 8 percent and in some segments up to 25 percent. “Higher raw material prices have such a big impact on our business that we have to pass on some of these costs to our customers,” says CEO Herbert Forker. “We work hard to offset as much of the additional cost as we reasonably can; productivity programs, search for cheaper raw material solutions, purchasing efforts and efficiency measures from last year are continued.”
Kodak hosts discussion on the future of book publishing

While the book market overall will remain relatively flat over the next three years, digital technologies will provide new opportunities and better processes for content creation, delivery and production. That perspective was one of many shared by participants during an expansive roundtable discussion about the future of book publishing. Held at the New York Public Library and hosted by Kodak, the roundtable brought together executives from book publishing, manufacturing, retailing and distribution companies, as well as an author.

EskoArtwork announces that its shareholder, the Danish investment group Axcel enters into a definitive Sales Purchase Agreement with the US industrial company Danaher (NYSE: DHR) for the acquisition of 100% of the shares in EskoArtwork for a purchase price of €350 million.The closing of the transaction is subject to customary approvals and is foreseen to be concluded within the first half of 2011.

France will allow Goss International to adjust capacity and strengthen competitiveness of European operations

Synergie to Increase Creative Capacity with Sixth KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press

Synergie Group plc has invested in the latest KODAK NEXPRESS SX Digital Production Color Press with Fifth Imaging Unit to maximize its creative options and increase capacity. The installation, which includes the KODAK Dimensional Printing System, will mark the company’s sixth investment in KODAK NEXPRESS Presses.  The press will complete a group of three NEXPRESS machines installed at Synergie's Solihull plant.
New head for Trelleborg Printing Blankets

Raw materials continue to drive price increases for printing inks

Sun Chemical today announced that the price of its Heatset and Publication Gravure products in Europe will be increased by €0.20–0.25 per kg depending on colour, effective immediately. With continuous pricing pressure and shortage of key raw materials, it has become essential to implement a further cost increase. Materials such as gum rosin, one of the most important resins used in the manufacture of these inks, continue to suffer from severe supply shortages which aren’t abating.
Vulcan 202 provides quality and speed solution at printing partners

Printing Partners Brussels will complete 2010 by equipping all 12 towers on its Manroland Colorman coldset press with Vulcan 202 blankets, following successful trails of the Trelleborg product.  The search for a blanket that provides consistent high print quality, combined with the ability to operate the Colorman at its full 42,000 copies per hour capacity, has taken more than a year, as plant manager Eric Elyn explains.
Mimaki to showcase UV and sublimation printers at various promotional product trade fairs in the new year

IDEAlliance + IPA announces new JDF expert series module

IDEAlliance + IPA and The International Cooperation for the Integration of the Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4) organization announced the addition of a JDF 1.4/1.4a module to the JDF Expert Certificate program. The JDF Expert Certificate program is now a 15-part training program designed to teach anyone interested in process automation the fundamentals of JDF. "This program was designed with the printer and premedia professional in mind," said Steve Bonoff, executive vice president of marketing at IDEAlliance + IPA.
manroland takes the next step in its strategic reorientation

Management and the works council of manroland AG have agreed on a reconciliation of interests and a social plan to cut around 500 jobs at the locations in Augsburg, Offenbach, and Plauen by the end of 2012 and to transfer a further 300 employees to the new business unit manroland Industrial Services, which will be founded on January 1, 2011. The portfolio of this new business unit includes industrial consultancy as well as the placement of technical specialists as temporary staff. With the reconciliation of interests, the world’s second largest manufacturer of printing systems takes the next major step in its strategic reorientation.
