The Ghent Workgroup (GWG) is delighted with the response to its 2017/2018 Webinar Program. A global audience of over 300 attended the first series of webinars during November and December 2017. This first series included a review of the results of the 2017 GWG PDF Survey. The next webinar in the series is due to take place on 16th January 2018 at 4pm CET.

Kroha in Germany, launches operation of the worlds 5,000th ULT-300 cold glue sensor from Baumer hhs
Baumer hhs celebrated a proud anniversary in 2017: Kroha GmbH at its plant in Barleben, near Magdeburg, Germany, launched the operation of the world’s 5,000th ULT-300 cold glue sensor from Baumer hhs, the Krefeld-based manufacturer of industrial gluing and quality assurance systems. Kroha uses the sensor in an FF 52i folding carton gluing machine from KAMA, which was retrofitted with a top gluing nozzle to enhance the machine’s flexibility.
Changes on the Board of Management of technotrans AG
The Supervisory Board of technotrans AG has resolved to reshuffle the Board of Management team. Henry Brickenkamp, member of the Board of Management of technotrans AG since 2006 and Chief Executive Officer since 2008, had previously notified the Supervisory Board that he does not wish to extend his contract, which expires mid-way through the year, enabling him to follow up a new professional challenge.
Sun Chemical to present its metal decorating solutions at the Aerosol & Dispensing Forum 2018
During the Aerosol and Dispensing Forum (ADF) 2018, which takes place from 31 January to 1 February at the Porte de Versailles, Paris, Sun Chemical will showcase its full portfolio of inks for monobloc, tube and aerosol cans as well as its brand protection solutions for metal packaging. It will also have multiple covert taggant-reader systems, special effect inks and smart sensor technology on display.
Siegwerk expands its presence in Latin America by acquiring Brazilian ink manufacturer Tupahue Tintas
Siegwerk Druckfarben AG & Co. KGaA, one of the leading international suppliers of printing inks for packaging applications and labels, has signed a contract to purchase family-owned Tupahue Tintas, one of the Brazilian market leader for flexo and gravure printing inks and varnishes located in Diadema (São Paulo). With this acquisition, Siegwerk expands its presence in the Latin American region and further strengthens its ability to better serve specific local market demands. Since its foundation in 1989, Tupahue Tintas offers innovative ink solutions especially designed for serving the needs of packaging converters in the local market.
Italian label printer invests in Fujifilm Flenex plates
Based across four locations in and around Milan, La Prensa is a major label manufacturer expecting to produce more than 18 billion labels in 2017 and targeting turnover of €25 million. Operating in the food and beverage sector, La Prensa uses solvent and UV printing to produce many different types of labels: paper labels for bottled water, chocolate and canned goods; adhesive and thermal transfer labels; plastic labels and packaging; and shrink sleeve and adhesive film – all for some of the biggest brands in Italy and around the world.

The Print Show 2018 details early commitment as key names join HP in signing up
Shortly after announcing its move back to the NEC in Birmingham for 2018, organisers of The Print Show have revealed “significant” early interest in the event, with a number of companies joining HP in signing up to exhibit. The Print Show 2018 will take place from September 18th to 20th at the NEC, the site of the inaugural event back in 2015, as well as the 2016 show. This year, The Print Show was staged at the International Centre in Telford and attracted praise from all quarters.
Taopix has appointed Shanghai-based, Boostech, as its value added reseller for China
Founded in 2015, Boostech specialises in personalised and variable data software solutions for commercial printers. The two companies were first introduced to each other at China Print in Beijing in May 2017. Boostech Technical Director, Leo Zhu, says “We met with Taopix at the exhibition and our first impressions were that Taopix would be a really good fit for Boostech and complement our existing portfolio of products.”

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is reaching a milestone in its “Heidelberg goes Digital” strategy with the market launch of the Heidelberg Assistant presented at drupa 2016, and breaking new ground in customer support in the process. With the start of the rollout in the pilot markets of Germany, Switzerland, USA and Canada, the company is placing the customer-supplier relationship on a new footing.

With the new inking and wash-up system TURBOCLEAN, Windmöller & Hölscher has already set a new standard in the market. According to the specialist for machines for the manufacturing of flexible packaging, more than 1,000 systems have now been integrated in central cylinder machines. In 2016, W&H supplemented the system with a new variant: TURBOCLEAN ADVANCED E with low-maintenance electric pumps. Around 50 TURBOCLEAN ADVANCED E units have been sold since the Drupa 2016, which is further proof of the high interest in the market for this future orientated inking and cleaning technology.

The eighth edition of Labelexpo Asia 2017 closed in Shanghai earlier this month with record visitor numbers. Held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), the region’s largest show for the label and package printing market attracted 20,084 buyers, up 19.9% on 2015.
IPACK-IMA Monitor reveals upturn in domestic demand in first half of year
The 2017 first-half figures for the Italian processing and packaging industry revealed higher-than-expected domestic revenues driven by government incentives on the purchase of capital goods. The trend is expected to continue in the second half of the year as exports also pick up.
MPS to make bold strides into Asia in 2018
As the next step in MPS’ strategy to expand local presence in Asia, the Dutch-based narrow-web press manufacturer will establish an official Asia branch office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia early in 2018. Christof Naier taking over from Klaus Bachstein as CEO of Gallus
After 15 years at the helm of the Gallus Group, Klaus Bachstein has made the decision to leave the company for pastures new. Mr. Bachstein joined Gallus Ferd. Rueesch AG as Director of Marketing, Business Development and Screen Printing Business on 1 October 1995, subsequently also taking over responsibility for Service and Sales. In June 2002, he took over the position of CEO of the Gallus Group.
Clariant to increase prices for Masterbatch and Compound products
Clariant, a world leader in masterbatches and specialty compounds, has today announced a price increase globally for all masterbatch and compound products containing titanium dioxide, carbon black, pigments, dyes and several additives by 8% (depending on the grade, concentration and quality of the titanium dioxide, carbon black, pigments, dyes and additives).
